DaGuse
DaGuse is a rare breed. They spend their days roaming outside in the wilderness and at night
they find rest in peoples’ homes. These creatures walk on all fours with paws that leave
prints that terrify. They can deceive everyone that they come in contact with.
At first sight, DaGuse are precious and sweet but within moments they can
transform into killer monsters. Growing their teeth larger to sink into flesh
and using their enormous paws to crush anyone or anything. DaGuse have over-sized mouths and extremely long tongues. They tend to eat
anything they want to but they love hunting and eating animal. These vicious creatures creep up on innocent animals. DaGuse plays with these animals before gently picking them up in their mouth. These animals then give their prey a little shake and just like that they have a meal.
When a DaGuse reproduces, it can create about a dozen young, called Gusey. Gusey sometimes leave their mother’s side as early as two months old. When they are together, the Gusey eats by connecting to the DaGuse. The creature carries their young by snatching them up in their mouth by the Gusey's skin. Gusey interact with each other by biting and pouncing on each other. This rough play teaches the Gusey the importance of survival and independence at a young age. Before other DaGuse approach, they surround the approaching monster with an arched back and hair arose to show their strength. These creatures do this to threaten the other animal so they do not cause any harm.
Pictured below is a DaGuse in it’s natural habitat, convincing humans that it is safe to approach.

*Based on my sweet and gentle dog named Angus, also known as Goose.
Great Job! I thought this was an adorable poem and I loved how personal it was and the picture of your dog really adds a great touch.
ReplyDeleteAs far as this poem being an encyclopedia entry I think you did a great job and giving the right facts so the reader can really understand who the dog is and what is going on.
Only thing is that I would suggest using more powerful words, such as the ones you used "terrify" which give a deeper sense of the monstrous feeling the dog.
Great job again!
DaGuse is a really creative name for this monster! I like how you presented the monster as sweet and harmless at first, but then revealed its true colors further into the poem. I appreciate the picture of the DaGuse in its natural habitat :) Only thing I would change about this poem is the repetition of DaGuse- you could switch it out for "it", "breed", "monster", or "species. Very cute poem!
ReplyDeleteThis poem was great! I really felt like I was reading an encyclopedia definition. All the information that a person would need to know about the monster was present. As stated above, I would suggest that instead of repeating DaGuse many times, the speaker should use other words in place of it like "they, monster" etc.
ReplyDeleteIt is rare that someone writes a good poem about a pet, but I think you pulled it off. By imaging your dog as a monster, you have transformed the assignment (not to mention the dog) into a playful romp. But what is more interesting to me as a reader is the position you imagine for the audience of this entry. You describe pups suckling their mother as if it was some kind of alien activity, which encourages us, your readers, to see the act of nursing anew. This is quite clever, and I would love to see even more of it. I love the idea of imagining an ordinary animal as if it were a strange monster and describing quotidian activities as if they were weird and magical. More like this could transform this from a good, fun, short poem into something really amazing!
ReplyDeleteThis monster poem was so cute! I loved how you took the basic characteristics of a dog and tweaked them to make him sound a little scary! And such an adorable picture to go with it! My suggestion would be just to make it a little longer adding details of its environment or what it might do on a typical day. Great job!
ReplyDeleteVery cute poem! I like how you took a creature we would never call a monster and described it in a "scary" way. My favorite line was, "Growing their teeth larger to sink into flesh and using their enormous paws to crush anyone or anything"- which really puts the scary image in ones head, but when you realize it's a dog, i couldn't help but smile at the same playful image. Overall, really great job!
ReplyDeleteThis poem has some complex entries that regarding this "monster." You describe the DaGuse as "leaving prints to terrify," while also describing the DaGuse as "gentle" when it plays with its prey. I was not sure what to make of that, but I found interesting.
ReplyDeleteI really liked the last line of this poem because the "poem" authenticity. I actually thought the last line made this entry seem more like a short article in a newspaper, which are often accompanies by pictures and short captions. Great job!
