With No Choice, I Train (Sestina #2)

I wake up in the morning and the first thing I do is breath
Today marks another day of training
I get out of bed and tie up my shoe without stopping
If I think about it I will never make it to the pavement
How will I ever travel 8 miles?
Stop thinking, just go for your run

These thoughts are always present before I run
I just need to breathe
Do not think about the miles
It's been 3 treacherous months of training
On the pavement
Without stopping

You will do this and you will not let anything stop
You from running
It’s time to pound on that pavement
You will lose your breath
You will increase your training
I will start with my music and the first mile

Hitting the third mile
This athlete can’t be stopped
This is the amount you normally train
I’m reaching mile 4 of running
I’m breathing
Trying not to focus on my feet hitting the pavement

Need to keep my eyes from looking at the pavement
Only 3 more miles
Breath
With two miles left I feel a sense of stopping
You better keep running
I will keep training

Or you can take that train
How much longer is this pavement?
I need to be done with this run
Only one more mile
Just lip sing to the music or you’ll stop
I inhale a deep breath

I stop running and breathing gets heavier
Officially traveled 8 miles on the pavement

Now sleep before another round of training

‘Tis The Season

It’s time for the good times,
We need a holiday.
Sleep in heavenly peace,
If we took a holiday.
Just like the ones we used to know,
So be good for goodness sake.

We’re gonna have a celebration,
It doesn’t show signs of stopping.
Took some time to celebrate,
A way to come together.
Help to make the season bright,
You better not cry.

The weather outside is frightful,
There is just one thing I need-
I’m dreaming of a white Christmas.
The lights are turned way down low,
It’s a silent night.
Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow.

All the lights are shining,
And everyone is singing.
Standing right outside my door,
You better watch out.
This is all I’m asking for-
Find it hard to sleep tonight.

Everybody spread the word,
The winter weather is coming.
The tree tops will glisten,
More than you could ever know.
Chestnuts roasting on an open flame,
The fire is slowly dying.

Let it snow
Let it snow
Let it snow

A Lack of Spirit (Sestina)

It is Thanksgiving, I had to go home.
Now it’s time to leave, board my flight
They told me the 6 am is always on time for Spirit
Now I’m here, waiting
Missing class and hoping to get on the plane
By the gate where the surrounding strangers sleep and sit

One hour goes by and I’m just sitting
Reminiscing on the weekend, thinking about time at home
Staring out at fog and an empty plane
Wondering why I’m not on my flight
Patiently waiting
This customer is not satisfied, oh my airline Spirit

The holiday has passed, I'm definitely not in the Spirit
I see why as I continue to just sit
Occasionally wandering around the airport as I continue to wait
I cannot believe I’m still in Michigan and not at home
I should have changed my flight
I’m watching them slowly fuel the plane

It’s been two dragged out hours I have been waiting for my plane
It is too early for any spirits
Why my flight?
I rather be traveling while I sit
Looking down at my home
But instead I’m simply waiting

Three hours of "patiently" waiting
Now I see the “chef” truck next to the plane
This may be my last hour at home
I guess I am happy that I got more time here, thanks to Spirit
There is nothing like people watching as you sit
It is now the fourth hour of waiting for my flight

Then there’s an announcement for my flight
Am I finally done waiting?
Do I get to move to a different place to sit?
I just want to get on the plane
This is the last time I fly Spirit
Going back to Delta next time I go home

I have a lack of spirit from all of this waiting
It's time to now sit on the plane

It has been nice at home but it’s time for my flight back to reality

DaGuse

DaGuse is a rare breed. They spend their days roaming outside in the wilderness and at night they find rest in peoples’ homes. These creatures walk on all fours with paws that leave prints that terrify. They can deceive everyone that they come in contact with. At first sight, DaGuse are precious and sweet but within moments they can transform into killer monsters. Growing their teeth larger to sink into flesh and using their enormous paws to crush anyone or anything. DaGuse have over-sized mouths and extremely long tongues. They tend to eat anything they want to but they love hunting and eating animal. These vicious creatures creep up on innocent animals. DaGuse plays with these animals before gently picking them up in their mouth. These animals then give their prey a little shake and just like that they have a meal.

When a DaGuse reproduces, it can create about a dozen young, called Gusey. Gusey sometimes leave their mother’s side as early as two months old. When they are together, the Gusey eats by connecting to the DaGuse. The creature carries their young by snatching them up in their mouth by the Gusey's skin.  Gusey interact with each other by biting and pouncing on each other. This rough play teaches the Gusey the importance of survival and independence at a young age. Before other DaGuse approach, they surround the approaching monster with an arched back and hair arose to show their strength. These creatures do this to threaten the other animal so they do not cause any harm.
Pictured below is a DaGuse in it’s natural habitat, convincing humans that it is safe to approach.

(Haiku #1)
Colors are alive
Wind killing all of nature
The crunch of the leaves

(Haiku #2)
The snow is falling
The large man in his red coat
The fear of finals
